Kristi Lee
Kristi Lee created Canadian True Crime as a personal creative passion project in 2017.
She remains the primary writer, researcher, narrator and sound designer for the podcast.
There’s a reason for her unusual accent: Kristi was born and raised in New Zealand, spent time in the UK as a young teenager, and finished high school in Australia. In 2009, she and her husband relocated to Canada, where they’re now proud citizens.
When Kristi started Canadian True Crime as a hobby, she was working full-time in marketing communications in Toronto’s financial district. She has a business marketing degree, deep curiosity and an eye for detail.
Surprised when the podcast quickly found an audience, Kristi juggled it with her job for several years, working on episodes at night after her two kids were in bed. In early 2020 she left her 20-year career to work full-time on the podcast.
Kristi has no qualifications or training in criminology. She approaches each case as a curious outsider, eager to understand the country she now calls home and the inner workings of the justice system through the open court principle.
In June 2025, Kristi Lee co-founded Beyond The Verdict, a Canadian survivor-led advocacy group dedicated to challenging a justice system that too often puts sexual assault survivors on trial.
Kristi lives in the Greater Toronto Area with her family. She prefers to avoid the spotlight wherever possible.
